On July 1, 2020, the Board of Directors adopted a resolution asking the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to approve a name change to “Sienna Parks & Levee Improvement District.”  A copy of the resolution is here.  State law prohibits the District from changing its name without approval of the TCEQ.  The formal approval process is expected to take 3-6 months.  The District will continue to use the “SPLID” acronym.

The name change reflects that parks and recreation are now a significant part of the District’s services.  The name change is also consistent with the rebranding effort started by the developers in May 2019.   Developer signage throughout the community is expected to be replaced over the next 6 months and many of the other public entities that serve the community are changing their names as well.

Board member Gregg Yarborough noted, “In Sienna we take great pride in acknowledgement of the socially conscious views of society at large. Therefore, our name change should reflect our inclusive population throughout our community.”
